Komodo (KMD) Changes
According to PR #670, the auto checkpointing mechanism with a master node dPoW will be sunsetting. Protection against 51% attacks on the KMD network will be achieved through a centralized solution with automatic checkpoints. Learn more about how automatic checkpoints will work here.
Komodo Classic (KMDCL) Launch
Simultaneously, the KMDCL project (Komodo Classic) is launching its own fork at the same block (4771595). The main goal is to return to the original vision of what Komodo should be. Komodo Classic promises the return of shielded (private) transactions, a return of 5% APR for KMDCL holders, 3 KMDCL block rewards, dPoW, and other features that the original KMD has recently lost.
KMD vs KMDCL: Two Different Cryptocurrencies
It is important to understand that KMD and KMDCL are two different coins with different daemons: komodod for KMD and kmdclassicd for KMDCL, maintained by different development teams. KMD will continue to be supported by the Gleec Team, while KMDCL is a community-driven fork. You can think of this fork similar to the situation with BTC (Bitcoin) and BCH (Bitcoin Cash). Both projects share a common history and consensus rules up to a certain block, and become completely different blockchains after the fork point. The same applies to KMD and KMDCL.
